Kiruna Electric is an electric truck for mining operations. Electric power is supplied from a three-phase AC overhead trolley line. The whole design is based on well proven components. Kiruna Electric has an all-electric system with one motor for each axle, making it a four wheel drive truck. Kiruna Electric is powered by two heavy duty traction motors – one for each axle.

ABB provides electric drive and control system for the Kiruna electric mining haulage trucks EMT35 and EMT50. The original design from the mid 80's with DC drives was designed and manufactured by ABB- or ASEA, as it was then. Today's generation with AC drives is produced by Atlas Copco. These trucks have a cumulative operating time exceeding 100 years' production in underground mines.
